Project Management - a new and yet perennial task

Due to an accelerated pressure for change and the necessity to promptly implement requirements completely and effectually the need of project management competence will continue to increase. We experience that many companies are forced to increasingly face this phenomenon and that the required competence often is not or not sufficiently available. This is mostly the case in respect of the overlapping control of complex projects with many participants or of the enhancement of speed in order to achieve results. For TCI with its experienced consultants and project managers the project management has ever been one of the essential core competencies – our range of services consists of the following, essential features:

Takeover of the operative program - and project management

As a matter of fact the most simple solution for qualitative and/or quantitative bottlenecks or for completely new challenges (thematic, methodical, procedural) is the temporary recruiting of experienced program- or project managers. Right this is one of our core tasks: our consultants have perennial experience. We have adopted for our customers complex, overlapping program management functions, having had control over 100 complex projects at the same time. Those have been innovative projects with new technological challenges or new approaches like agile project management with methods like Scrum, large projects of billions in volume, international projects with participants on several locations and in different culture groups or demanding changes in organizations.

Specific Feature: Bid Management

Especially in the case of companies in the system- or plant business the mere issuing of a complex bid and the process of winning the bid represents a comprehensive project. TCI has proved its competence in numerous projects , also in an international environment (international offers or Bid Management in the Middle East) and has played an essential role in answering RFIs and RFPs, structuring of the bids, version-/document management, risk- and quality management or even directly cooperated in individual cases in the lead- or bid generation with the customer.

Situation Evaluation and Commencing Improvement Proposals

TCI conducts systematic Project Audits, Reviews or Project Health Checks which are based on the methodic principles of PMI, GPM, and Prince2. Supported by comprehensive checklists single projects, complete programs or the project management culture on its whole in an enterprise (or division) are under examination and evaluation and improvement proposals are developed. These are related to the direct implementation of the projects (“Quick Wins”) and to the optimization of the methods, processes, qualifications, and project culture on the whole.

Introduction / Optimization of Program - and Project Management

In a number of quite different situations TCI consultants were asked to design an integrated, comprehensive program management with program offices and functions like program control, project reporting and – monitoring, risk- and quality management, support of the head of project or coaching and so on.

We care that a program management comes up to the requirements of international cooperation – i.e. different languages, (project) cultures, integrating methods and tools in order to optimize the project management in globally active enterprises.

TCI consultants also offer trainings that are based on standard methods like PMI or that implement company-specific requirements of PM up to the assistance for a PMI certification.

Project Portfolio Management

A fundamental challenge in larger enterprises is more and more the prioritization of projects: a typical situation is that more projects and more requests exist than the available resources or the available budget allow. In this situation the project portfolio management is effective, i.e. the methodical procedure in setting priorities, in evaluation, in designing and assessing the business case, in compiling the project parameters and KPIs and in tracking and monitoring the results of the current transformation process.

In this setting TCI cooperates with implementation partners on the basis of the directing tools, tools that imply the whole spectrum from business case prioritization, graphic interaction up to the pursuit of the projects.

Program- and project management is somewhat complex and requires holistic thinking, acting and a comprehensive experience. We are mastering this challenge in a successful way.
